Tourism Safety

On the first day of the 6th International Coastal and Marine Tourism Congress in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Tourism Safety organised and facilitated a national workshop on beach tourism http://www.cmt2009.com/Page_3c.html

Working with business partner Surf Life Saving Tasmania, the workshop explored the key topics of sustainable development, access for diverse user groups, and safety.

Delegates from government and industry attending the workshop endorsed a number of key recommendations to progress beach tourism initiatives in South Africa, including the hosting of an international symposium in Port Elizabeth planned for early in 2011.

Contributing to the main Congress, Jeff Wilks presented a keynote address on Remote Technologies for Beach Safety, while Donna Pendergast gave a plenary paper describing key findings from work on Y Generation and Beach Safety.

Tony Van Den Enden provided a detailed description of consultancy work completed in Fiji to train resort staff in first aid, CPR and lifesaving.
